I came up with the idea of asking some friends in different parts of the country/world to answer some questions about the cities they live in. I thought this was a cool idea to create little guides with advice from actual locals.
The first person I asked was a childhood friend of mine from when I lived in Maryland. She’s super cool and gave some awesome tips about the amazing Charleston, South Carolina!

Best places to eat?
Locals favorites that are cheap- Persimmon Cafe, Circes Grotto, Caviar and Bananas, Monza, Taco Boy
Expensive- Halls, Pan E Vino
Best happy hours (just throwin that in there)- O-Ku, Fish, Indaco, HoM, The Watch
Best attractions to visit?
The Battery, the Cistern, Waterfront Park
What is overrated?
Food wise- Jack’s Cafe, Hyman’s seafood
Attraction wise- CARRIAGE RIDES- all the locals hate when tourists go on the carriage rides, use your feet people
Best free things to do?
Lol this is a hard one.. I’d say just walking around and taking in the city
Do you have a metro system?
Nope, we use uber and bike taxi’s
Best places for nightlife?
If you want the ratchet college scene- O’Malley’s or Midtown
More sophisticated adult scene- Republic, Cocktail Club
Urban Outfitters, Las Olas, V2V, Lululemon, House of Sage
Advice for someone visiting?
Don’t hesitate to ask locals for advice on food, shopping etc. Everyone’s super friendly and more than willing to answer
