    Best Gifts for Travelers

Due to the holiday season nearing, I have been asked a lot by friends and family about good gifts to give someone that travels frequently. With a lot of upcoming trips planned for 2018 in mind, I sat down and brainstormed some ideas on what I find would be great things to gift a traveler! Books Books can be tricky. If you feel like you know the person well enough to get something they’ll find interesting then go for it! Nothing is better than having a book on you during a 10 hour flight or reading while laying on the beach. My favorite books: Crazy Rich Asians, The Devil Wears…

    48 Hours in Krakow

Even though I only had 48 hours in Krakow, it instantly became one of my favorite cities in Europe. Within the two days my friends and I spent there, we had met some of the kindest people, eaten incredible food, stayed in a lovely apartment and learned so much about the dark times Poland went through during World War II. Krakow was such an extraordinary city to visit and even though my time was limited, I want to share some of the things I recommend doing there. Poland (and Eastern Europe in general) is a great inexpensive destination since the dollar is so strong there. We by no means traveled…

How To Not Go Insane On A Long Haul Flight

When I was a kid and people would ask the popular question of what superhero power you would have and why, I would always give the same answer. While other kids responded with super strength or invisibility, I wanted to be able to teleport to other places. This wasn’t because I thought it was cool or wanted to save the world, but because of my hatred of long distance flights. Unfortunately I am still just your average human that loathes being stuck in a metal flying tube for 12 hours, but I have found some ways to make it more bearable. Dress in layers I know this is a very…

There are also tons of coffee shops, my favorites are Milk & Honey, Kit Coffee, and Tru Bru Organic Coffee.…

    How To Conquer A Hostel

Hostels are the broke traveler’s saving grace. I always say don’t invest in a hotel room if you’re barely going to be in it. I do love a little luxury every once in awhile but if I can pay $14 for a comfortable bed to pass out in after 12 hours of exploring, you bet I will. I’m not gonna lie, it took a few times to feel like I was completely prepared for staying at a hostel. They can be kind of overwhelming your first few times and it’s easy to forget things that will make your time there as smooth as possible. After countless 12 person rooms and…

    Finding Comfort in Pictures

It’s been about 10 weeks that I’ve been back in Iowa and even though I am starting to feel adjusted, there are still days that I wish I wasn’t here if I am completely honest. As someone that always likes to be on the go all the time, routine gets old fast. These days I wake up, go to class, go to work, work out (maybe…), do homework, go to bed. Rinse and repeat. Though I know I have a ton of exciting things to look forward to in the near future, they still sometimes feel very distant. I had never really experienced the post travel blues before but I…

    An Apology To My Feet

Dear Feet, I’m so sorry that I have treated you both so terribly these past few years during my travels. What can I say, I’m selfish. I focus more on putting you guys in shoes that match my outfit than my surroundings. I know you guys get jealous when you see other feet comfortably resting in Tevas or Chacos but I just can’t bring myself to do it. You have to understand, these cozy shoes are just the first step in to falling down the black hole which includes a fanny pack, an America Frick Yeah shirt and screaming at foreign people loudly because it will make them understand you…

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Since the horrible shooting in Las Vegas, I have been thinking a lot about how messed up the world is right now. It seems like the only news alerts I wake up to in the mornings are about shootings, bombings or some other form of terror. It’s so incredibly scary to know that people can’t even go enjoy a concert without having the thought of being sprayed with bullets in the back of their minds now. What really pained me was that when I heard about the shooting in Las Vegas, I was incredibly sad but not shocked. We have become so desensitized to events like this that there is…
